DENTAL IMPLANTS 2018-07-24T17:10:41+00:00

DENTAL IMPLANT is a boon for the replacement of missing teeth.
Because it overcomes many disadvantages of other traditional methods of replacement of missing teeth
i.e., with removable dentures or with a fixed bridges.

WHAT IS DENTAL IMPLANT?

A DENTAL IMPLANT is a metal post (titanium) which is placed surgically into the jawbone beneath the gums and allows the dentist to place new teeth or a bridge into that area. In contrast to dentures, the implant doesn’t come out. Also, Dental implants also benefit general bone and teeth health because they do not take the support of other teeth.

IMPLANTATION – is defined as putting an object or a material, which is alloplastic in nature either partially or completely into the body for therapeutic, experimental, diagnostic and /or prosthetic purpose.

WHAT IS PROCEDURE FOR DENTAL IMPLANT PLACEMENT?

Implant procedure is divided into 3 simple steps—

STEP 1-

First of all, placing the dental implant below the gums, placing it similarly,  like the root of a tooth. This gives time for healing and also protect the implant from forces. A hole is drilled inside the bone with the various drills and then finally, the implant is screwed inside. Also, the dental implant is exposed after the completion of healing time. This integration process with bone is called as osseointegration.

STEP 2 –

In this step, the doctor examines the implant to see if integration is successful into the bone or not and if integration is successful the doctor places a post or abutment. Similarly, as the area around the gums heals, gingiva forms a collar and as a result, this gives the dentist access to the implant while placing the artificial tooth.

In some cases, step 1 and 2 are done together within small time gap. The advantage is that it reduces extra surgical procedure, however, the dental surgeon decides this taking into the account the time needed for the dental implant to heal.

Likewise, the time gap between steps 1 and 2,  can be from 1month to 6 months depending on various factors.
